Today is the last day for the property owners in Pune to pay property tax for the first half on current fiscal to avoid 2% penalty that would be charged from July 1 for non-payment of tax on time.
Officials in the property tax department said that June 30 is last day to avoid penalty. Over 5.84 lakh property owners so far have paid the tax with civic administration through online and off-line method. Over 3 lakh owners however were still to pay the tax for the current fiscal.
The PMC so far has collected over Rs. 719 cr property tax in three months (April to June). The tax collection is up by Rs. 92 cr than last year’s tax collection of Rs. 627 cr. About 50% tax payers have opted for online modes.
The property tax department has said that in case of second half year 2% fine 9per month) is charged starting from January 1. If property has arrears, it is applicable for per month 2% penalty on arrears amount per month.
Officials said that the administration has undertaken various campaigns to appeal citizens to make payment of property tax due at the earliest. The response has been fairly good so far. Meanwhile, of 5.84 lakh property owners who have paid the tax with PMC till now, about 2.87 lakh have preferred online gateways and 2.96 lakh have paid the taxes through off-line modes. There has been steady rise in payment of tax through online gateways, officials said.
