The Mumbai wing of the Mhada housing board conducted a lottery for 819 apartments at Rangsharda Auditorium, 10 AM today. The lottery could be witnessed live on the Mhada’s home site and it was supposed to be for flats in the EWS, LIG, MIG, and HIG categories
Mhada received 65,126 valid applications for these houses. The board was set up with the objective of providing low cost housing to the common working class Mumbaikar. Curiously, the highest number of flats has been built for the high income group. The number is 338 and all of these flats are located in Lower Parel, Powai and Kandivli. The price of two these apartments is approximately Rs 2 cr, while most are priced Rs 1-1.5 cr.
Just eight small houses under EWS (economically weak section) category have been constructed in Sion, Mankhurd, Chandivli and Magathane while 192 flats for LIG (low income group) are available in Vikhroli, Charkop and Siddharth Nagar Goregaon among other locations.
Approximately 280 flats in the MIG (middle income group) category are constructed at Pratiksha Nagar Sion, Goregaon, Charkop and Malad-Malwani.
